FIGHT!

Well, from the reputation of the school I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. I just really wish it wouldn't have.
I was in the middle of conferencing with a student about their personal narrative, and suddenly there's all this commotion on the other side of the room and I see this girl lunge at this boy- and smack him. She was yelling insults and he yelled some equivalent of "whatever" and used the Crayola washable marker to mark on her shirt (they were supposed to be using them to draw glyphs about themselves and their goals). I hey-hey-hey-ed and "break-it-up"ed and pulled the chain to call the office via intercom- but before I got a response the girl had lunged back at the other kid. He was hunched over his desk covering his head with his arms and she was just hitting him over and over again. He started to get up as I ran back over. I grabbed her arms behind her back (double chicken-wing-style) and led her outside. She was shouting insults the whole way out. Of course, the class was chaos.

What seemed like an eternity later, our disciplinarian showed up (she reminds me of Aunt Chris). She gave the class a stern talking-to and took some accessories away to exemplify her force. The kids both have in-school-suspension tomorrow.

It's just so frustrating! Really- he drew on you with a marker so you're going to beat him up? We're going to use 20 minutes of school time to mark your hormonal territory and be the talk of the second-floor for a couple days? Bor-ing.

Fights are dumb.
