One Week Down

Today a law goes into effect officially outlawing cockfighting. It's the last state in the nation to do so. Better late than never, LA.
Today my 4th period class had what my vice principal affectionately calls "oral diarhea." I had to take quizzes away from 4 kids because they would not stop talking, after much to-do about my expectations beforehand.
It was a good day, aside from the uber-talkers mid-day. They're starting their first writing projects this weekend (personal narratives!). Exciting and daunting at once.
Today when I asked one of my students to read a small paragraph aloud so we all could learn about that particular classroom job, she said "Read it yourself!" We moved on, and someone else read it. After class she came up to me and said she said that because she can't read. Bam.
So I apologized for putting her on the spot and offered that we work together on her reading skills. There is so much to do.
I took a 3 hour nap this afternoon. It was amazing. And I got about five packages in the mail of books et. al from some wonderful folks. It was like Christmas.
Now I am celebrating by watching TV on DVD.
Life is good.
