North by Northwest

Headed out of New Orleans Friday- in bumper-to-bumper traffic with our mayor's voice coming through the radio speakers advising us to "get [our] butts out" of town- Ashlee and I decided that a flight back home might not be that much more than a few days of food and lodging in Memphis. So, with the help of our esteemed colleague The Internet, Matt booked tickets for us to fly out of Memphis Saturday afternoon.
We got to see friends in Seattle and partake in Bumbershoot- catching some good comedy and excellent rocknroll.
Meanwhile, New Orleans is okay- although just this afternoon a tornado touched down near the town where I work. Nagin and the decision-makers in NO are planning on to start reentry for regular folks on Thursday (right now only "first and second tier" passes are allowed), and school will resume for us on Monday.
I don't really know what damage is like in our neighborhood. Mostly it sounds like the electricity has been out and it's more wind than water damage this time.

So for now, I'm taking my work home with me- Visiting friends and family, doing online coursework, and lesson-planning for another week. Mine is la vida loca for sure.
