We were watching Napolean Dynamite in one of my 6th grade classes. It was ridiculous. They think it's hilarious when any character gets hit- and my special ed kids are sitting there calling people retarded.
My 8th graders are watching Wall-E and throwing balls of crumpled-up-paper at each other. The irony of doing this while watching a movie about excessive trash-build-up is lost on them.
*sigh*
Vocabulary:
blow (...for the day) e.g. "You just blew me for the day." v. tr. to ruin someone's day. To irk someone to an extreme extent.
triflin': adj. Derived from a word meaning petty, the students use it to describe anything they see as cheap or unlikeable.
More vocabulary to come. like... freedom: abs. n. late may... when the year is up, and I don't have to hear, "Ms. Craven, why don't you just stay in Washington, fo real? You blowin' me!" any...more.
