One small battle won for the good guys!

Makes me want to work for some sort of immigrants-rights organization. That would probably be overwhelming as well... but I do miss that part of my Womencare job. Today I spent about fifteen minutes reading Spanish tongue-twisters with a few sixth-graders.

Standardized testing- in an "accademically unacceptable school"- is extreme lock-down. (Extra secure yesterday during the brief tornado warning.) The halls have never been so empty and quiet. And the kids are stressed and silly.

There's fun stuff going on this weekend... New Orleans is good for its constant onslaught of festivals. There's an international human rights film festival happening right now, amongst other things. So far I've made one connection with performers who want to come share there stuff with our kids. That's exciting. We need extra motivational enforcements these last six weeks... yesterday afternoon was a special little hell.

"If you find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere."
