Extracurriculars

Last night I took one of my students from last year and her sisters to The Haunted Mortuary.
It was like Disneyland on a bad acid trip.
You enter the old building (an actual converted mortuary right between a few graveyards, including the biggest cemetery in New Orleans), and are greeted by a ferociously costumed character who towers above you with yellow teeth and grimey grey hair. He speaks in that classic Transylvania-type accent and ushers you into a very small area, where you are instructed to choose left or right. (People have psyched themselves up to be extremely nervous at this point, and it helped that a few creepy live (or not?) characters had been occasionally peering out at us from behind the house's curtains as we waited to enter.) So we're standing there about to choose, left or right, and a white-faced creature with fabric like skin hanging off his shadowy form suddenly leaps out from the left passage, yelling an offensive WHRAOR! that caused all of us to jump, most to scream, and one lady to turn around and exit the event right there.
Continuing on, the suprises continued. Costumed cast members lept out at every turn, and elaborately decorated scenes and jolting robotic monsters kept the mood sincerely disturbing. The scariest to me was this doll-like figure in a white lace dress with a skeletonesque head who came out of nowhere. Instead of screaming and looking about to attack, it walked slowly with arms hanging limp at her(?) sides. Its bald head (stitched mouth, large black hole eyes), tilted left to right and an eerie soft voice said "Come here." She trailed right behind me as I hurriedly tried to maneuver up the narrow stairs.

Chainsaws, bodies hanging in bags, canibalism, vampires...... there were some very disturbing scenes.

But I'd recommend it to a friend.
