Gagging Order/F The Man

Check out this new policy:

School employees may no longer communicate with students or their famlies with their own telecommunication devices (e.g. cell phone and/or email). Telephones must be property of Jefferson Parish and the email must be that provided by the school district.

Awesome, Superintendent. Since I don't have a telephone in my room, and my kids' parents are rarely home during the hours when I would theoretically have access to an office phone, this will make it really convenient to communicate with parents about their child's education.

And the district's email is essentially equivalent to the mail system they used in the Flinstones.

Bitch-fest on the car ride home made me share the idea that popped into my head a few days ago about getting out of the country again. Maybe trying to teach in Mexico. Or go work on a farm. Get out of this bureaucracy for a minute.

Ashlee found out that a school in the RSD (more down-town New Orleans) is turning into a charter next year, and will have both middle and high-school groups there. That could be interesting too. In a high-school setting, I could teach books with more serious themes, and facilitate more interesting discussions.

And oh, how it would be nice to be away from puberty.

I don't know. Ashlee (roomate, colleague, and fellow PNWer), is all about life plans, even if they're constantly changing. Currently I'm fighting against having any at all.

I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving.

What are you doing for Thanksgiving? You are cordially invited to Grandma's house at the risk of really making your mother angry.

A charter school would be another great adventure, probably one without murder.

Too much murder going on in Mexico, please don't go there.

Love you.

I was JUST telling everyone how I need to get out of here. México sounds nice, right? Sorry about the gag order. I talk to my latino kids' parents on my cellphone ALL the time. The parents know they can call me whenever/wherever. I say do it anyway--who's going to know? The Superintendent has no idea what's going on at your school and I'm willing to bet your kids' parents aren't tight with him/her either. Damn the man!
