Sample Short Narrative

I did the writing process with my students to model expanding an event of a few moments into a short narrative. Here is my tale:

While in Barcelona this winter break, I had an encounter with a pair of criminals. Of course, I didn't know they were criminals at first; I just thought they were a little drunk and a lot annoying. It didn't take long to figure out the truth.
We were walking down the street off the busy "Ramblas," where tourists buzz around like swarms of nocturnal bees, and my friends decided to go check out a falafel restaurant up ahead on the other side of the street. I hung back, so I was walking by myself.
Suddenly there was a guy on either side of me. They were peppering their speech with "guapa," telling me how pretty I was, and asking if I would come out with them. I declined and continued to walk down the mostly-empty sidewalk.
Then I noticed that one of my admirers had disappeared.
I looked down at my purse, which was nestled safely (or so I thought) under my arm, and saw that my bright red wallet had disappeared too!
Immediately I turned on my heels. I spotted the guy who had snuck it out of my bag. I ran after him like a lioness after her prey, and quickly caught up to him. As I yelled a few of the toughest words I could think of (in English, of course), he pulled this weird smile-shrug combo and handed my wallet back.
I wanted to do something more- hit him in the face or call the police- but I also wanted to get away from him. This dispicable man who probably makes a habit of pickpocketing tourists. Also, at five-foot four and 116 pounds, I'm not exactly a force to be reckoned with.
So I called him a jerk one more time, with a VERY STERN look on my face, and turned around to find my friends, and maybe have some of their falafel.
