Coming up Roses

Betty's all better. Apparently she had corrosive leeches, which sound very gross indeed. It's all good now, and life is looking up in general.

Although the substitute left my room an absolute DISASTER on Wednesday, my kids have been very nice and receptive as I express my disappointment. We're making books as our final project this year- and their cardstock-and-duct-tape (trust me, they look good), covers are sitting on desks labeled for each class' publishing company. So far, they are:

Young Money Publishing
Love Inc.
Crescent City Inc.
and
Billy-The-Kid-Press

In fourth period today, we went off on a small tangent about illegal immigrant workers. M synthesized his understanding well, "Man, why somebody always trynna knock somebody's game? They just trynna make a dolla just like you's trynna make a dolla."

I live for moments like that in class.

Good moments and alll, I'm still quite ready to be away from school for a bit. Spring break starts THIS AFTERNOON!
Stefin and I and a friend of his are heading to Lafayette this weekend for a francophone Festival Internationale de la Musique. Really excited to see Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars and a star Kora player, and just generally jam out in the country- for free. We're couchsurfing with a guy who's really into French film and writers, so it has all the makings of a good time.

I am getting really ancy for Washington lately. It's been in the low-eighties during our afternoons here. I want me some mid-seventies- some crisp breezes, evergreens, sandstone, hikes, lakes and rivers you can actually swim in... MOUNTAINS! More time with more of the people I love.

Soon!
