Two Requests

Waiting for Superman opens this Friday (watch the trailer). Go see it. Just the preview makes me cry.

One teacher who is fighting tooth and nail to do good things at a struggling school is my friend Josh. He currently has a proposal through Sonic's "Limeades for Learning" project to fund an LCD projector (they're becoming a norm in most classrooms, yet, his school doesn't even own one.)

Help Mr. Dugat's students by clicking here and adding your vote. You can vote once a day- and after a certain number of votes, his project will be funded. No cost to you.

There are amazing kids we work with at our often ridiculous, overburdened and under-resourced schools. As the statistic mentioned in the "Superman" trailer, kids who don't finish school are 8 times more likely to wind up in jail. We've got to make school a place they want to be. We all have a part to play in doing that.

Carrie!
First, your friend got my vote :)
I'll check back often.

And, the movie looks amazing. The trailer gave me chills.

Keep fighting for your kids! Sometimes, I begin to despair about the system-- but then I see my kids on those particularly inspiring days and I find comfort in that fact that, in that moment, whatever just happened in my classroom made a difference in that student's life.

YOU do amazing things. I'm so glad you're back at school this year.

Best wishes!
