This was just minutes from my house on Saturday.
Now it's sunny and mostly clear.
What a crazy place.
EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT! My kids are really truly becoming better writers! I chart their class averages on the LEAP rubric every time they turn in an essay, and they are going up!!! Also, I can see the effects of a lesson I did on interesting descriptions. I told them making comparisons to unrelated things is a good way to keep your reader interested. (Their spelling keeps me on my toes)... And I get sentences like this:
"I was so scared. I was crying worse than a baby getting a weapon."
"If we get rid of drugs for non-drugs we can finally have some safety in this world for petesakes."
"I was going to make the first move, but then I froze like a popsicle straight out of the freezer."
"I was scared like a rat that's surrounded by seven big hungry brown lions that had their big brown and white teeth showing and I wasn't one of the lions I felt like I was the rat."
"His smile was like hot chocolate with sparkley marshmallows."
They are- for the most part- cracking me UP right now. (Check mscraven7.blogspot.com for more of their best work.)
Also: a few of my students approached me to ask if I would teach them French and/or Spanish after school. I brought the proposition to my vice principal, who approved my idea for an after school Foreign Language club. So far, interest is rampant. I'm going to have it be very selective and prestigious, and it is going to be GREAT. Starting after winter break.
Staff Christmas party tonight... and Spain one week from today!
Can you believe my life?

You make it so easy for me to brag about you!
:)
Crazy weather! I love the things your students write. So much fun! I hope it's okay that I'm following your new site...can't wait for more student work to read! They are truly lucky to have you as their teacher.
Just remember, you're the one creating your life. You should be proud, I am.
