Halftime's Over: The Game Resumes

Ahhhhhhh.... back to school. We've been in in-services this week, learning about digital storyboards and blabberizing.

After the comedy of errors of the past few days (missed flights, dead car batteries, getting pulled over in a school zone, flat tires...), we've become a little more legitimate... writing up drafts of our first units, acquiring school supplies, and getting up uncomfortably early. I feel one-thousand times more prepared this year than I did in August '08. A couple former students are going to come help me set up my classroom tomorrow afternoon (I promised them pizza). This year we have textbooks; I am no longer a stranger to the staff; I know what kind of rules are practical to enforce (remain in your seat) and which aren't (all actions must be in the interest of scholarship). And since I will have some of the same students I had last year, they are not all strangers to me.

I finally moved a bookcase into my room and it looks less like a temporary refuge and more like I actually live there. I realized that this is the first summer since I left my parents house in 2003 that I have not moved to a new abode. Hooray for less lugging-around-of-heavy-things!

I like your classroom blog. I hope your students and parents do too.
