Grading Sometimes Breaks My Heart

Their journal prompt the other day was to write a letter to a fifth grader explaining what middle school is like. This is T's entry:

"middle school is hard but it goes up a little. tons of people pick on you but you have to be stronge. not cry. you just have to learn how to pick yourself up from where you are. you tell your parents I can't though. I have told my mom and dad but they can't do anything. hopefully your parents can do something. my mom and dad have tried everything."

His feet don't even touch the floor when he sits in his desk. And he is amazingly diligent.

Why do other kids have to suck?

Friday, anyway.

Carrie, know that you are doing something right. The fact that he even wrote that in the first place shows that he trusts you and that is the most important part of this job...making those connections helps make everything else a lot easier.
